Love from afar.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve last written on the blog, but I came here today because I’m inspired. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot (a lot more than usual) but I’ve been thinking about what exactly it is that inspires me to be the person I am/want to be. In a world of online interaction, where we know each and every move of the ones we like & dislike and a place where no one hold secrets anymore, I want to know more.

I’m back at University sitting my final year and I’ve got myself buried already but that’s beside the point. This semester I’m feeling a lot more inspired but those around me; meaning I’m becoming more involved in my work and my studies (which is weird!).

I think we’ve gotten off track, but I want to share a memory where LOVE shook me to my core and changed my entire perception as a whole. Working in hospitality I come across the best and the worst, the angry and the delightful but most of all the kind-hearted. An elderly couple would visit the store on a daily basis, serving them with their extra hot, decaf flat whites (no froth please sir). This couple was so kind and full of love and they shared with everyone around them. The man shared a story; a story a war where his wife waited 12 years for him to arrive home to her embrace. “I waited because I knew from that moment at a local bar…this man was mine and I’d wait 100 years for him regardless” his wife stated. We conversed about his travels, how he wrote hundreds of letters where she now keeps in a box under their bed. “I cannot wait to see you my dear, and it’s already been 5 years”. The man, wearing a fedora and waistcoat expresses his love every day by thanking her every morning for waiting for me he says. This touching, soulful story reminded me that people live their own versions of life and as I learnt more and more about their experiences apart they still held onto their own concept of love.

To this day, I serve the couple where they share a smile and a hint of love and share stories from their past. I don’t know what I did to deserve such heart-felt people into my life whether it’s my professional or personal life, I’m constantly being inspired by those around me just a little bit at a time.
