BCM325 – Task 2 Part 1

Hi guys, my digital artefact for BCM325 this semester will focus on the exploration of the integration of artificial intelligence into the fashion industry. Looking 10 to 20 years down the track and reflecting on what is being introduced now, my artefact will discuss the ways companies are looking at using consumer insights and artificial intelligence to improve the industry as a whole.

Constructed into a final Prezi slide show, I intend on gathering a large collection of data through surveys via social media and combining resources that audiences can utilise for future reference and analysis.

  1. Hello Lachy!
Your idea sounds great. As a girl who likes to online shop I think it would be very helpful in the long run. There is a lot of great resources on UOW library that I found interesting and that I think are helpful.
Lots of new technological advances happening, AI attempting to give you the emotional part of fashion (how it makes you feel) by providing a 3D avatars based on your shape and size or the Echo Look which is under Amazon that analyses your outfits through algorithms and fashion specialists.
Some questions to think about could be would in store clothing exist in the future? How far would AI fashion assistant at home go?
Answer for questions above could be that everyone in the future will have their own AI personal stylist that will make and design your clothes at home. Eliminating department stores.
This link to the scene in Clueless where Cher is picking out her outfit on a computer. The movie was made in 1995 so you could definitely reference it and see what its like today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNDubWJU0aU
More people that use online shopping the better the algorithms. So you have to convince people to online shop more, using surveys to get the consumer to identify with something/someone to promote more online activity.
An idea could be using the Sims world to try on different outfits. Like picking a club outfit and going to the club and seeing how you feel in it. This could be done with VR.
    Look into apps and AI.

This is just initial research, I do plan to continue to explore your topic. If you have any questions or want to pick my brain about something don’t hesitate to ask.

  2. Hey Lachlan!
Before I watched your DA pitch I browsed your blog page to see who you are! Then, I read what your DA is about and watched your YouTube video. Firstly, I find it awesome how you have related your DA to something you are passionate about, fashion!

You have clearly explained your initial concept well and what it is you intend to create, being ‘the integration of artificial intelligence into the fashion industry’. It is thought-provoking how you are considering artificial intelligence with consumers and real time analytic feedback. There is defiantly an audience who will find this topic useful.

I like your idea to construct it into a Prezi. However, this is such a useful project that I think that exposing it to other platforms, a blog or even a website, would exhibit your idea well. Using Instagram following for an avenue is a good idea however I’d like to hear more on how you plan to do this and what you will be using these followers for? It would also be useful to hear the data you plan on collecting, from where, who and how.

You haven’t mentioned your method yet. My recommendation to you would be to test this DA in groups such as fashion lovers and even pose it to SME fashion retailers to try and gain some useful feedback. You could even try to talk to professionals in the manufacturing and production industry and see their opinion on medium and large scale perspectives and its future impact for fashion brands and their consumers. This would help your primary research.

I like how you have included secondary research to support your reason for choosing this particular DA topic. I have found an article, ‘Pragmatic AI For Retail: An introduction’. https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbestechcouncil/2018/11/21/pragmatic-ai-for-retail-an-introduction/
Though, it is about retail in general opposed to just fashion it is a relevant and useful article. It is written by Forbes and explains how many industries are looking at machine learning to enhance productivity.

The utility of this DA is clear and consistent. I believe that it is a relevant and useful artefact for other students, businesses, marketers, and even researchers for both now and the future. It will help your audience understand the future that fashion retail has and will help us to better understand e-commerce and shopping online.

Really good job, I love your research idea and I can’t wait to read the final product.

  3. Hey Lachy!

The fashion industry is something I am very interested in and one day hopefully will pursue a career in someday, so to me, this Digital Artefact is so exciting and fascinating! Your idea is well defined and constructed with a clear and understandable link to the future of the fashion industry.

The fashion industry has always been an aggressive and innovating field, one that every company wishes to be ahead of the rest. I know the implementation of AI in the fashion industry has already begun, but I don’t know too much about it. While researching a bit about it all, I found this article that shows which companies and organisations have already started introducing AI technology and how they are benefiting from it. https://www.analyticsindiamag.com/ai-has-become-the-latest-must-have-accessory-in-the-fashion-industry/ Very interesting read and that might be good for an understanding on where it is leading to, maybe even some ideas for you.

How will your Digital Artefact be tried and tested? Is there a method or process being designed or created before the final project, that’s not just research? Will it be interactive with an audience that can follow along the journey with you? These are just a couple of questions I wanted to ask for some clarification and possibly help guide you to what might help the average consumer not only learn more about this topic but be able to discuss in the future.

As you will be using your own Instagram account to gain responsive data, I would recommend to possibly consider a platform to post or use those results and Prezi slides, just so your followers can understand what and why you were collecting data, for a chance to look back, reflect and discuss.

I love that you have a true interest in this topic which I believe will fuel you to get the best information and results, and I am very excited to be able to witness it all unfold. Also, quick little mention, I love that you mention Tommy Hilfiger while wearing Tommy, nice little attention to detail there.
